Highland Day 2015 Postponed Due To Weather

The executive committee of the annual Highland Day festival held a conference call where they discussed the weather forecast for October 3. As of this post, it looks like the tropical depression called Joaquin was able to  gain enough energy and turned into a hurricane. Many of the storm models show its track right up the east coast: Some put its path up the Chesapeake, others to the west closer to I-95 while others put it out to sea. After a lengthly and lively discussion, it was decided to postpone the event until October 31. So, mark your calendars and note the change. See you at the crossroads. Here's a copy of the email that went out to all of the exhibitors.

Dear Exhibitors,

The Highland Day Committee deeply appreciates your support of and participation in our beloved event. We are committed to providing you with the best value possible in return for this support. While our concern for the safety of the public and property is paramount, we also want to do everything reasonably within our power to deliver an event which will best meet the needs of the majority of our valued vendors. With this in mind, in the face of the impending hurricane, we have made the decision to reschedule Highland Day for Saturday, October 31st.

Faced with insufficient parking due the loss of all our grass parking areas and a forecast of substantial rain for the entire day, the committee saw no way to stage a successful event on October 3rd.   We have encountered trying weather in the past such as light drizzle, cold rain and even extreme heat.  However we have never endured three solid days of torrential rains prior to the event, nor have we faced down a hurricane.  With safety as our main objective, we had to make this difficult choice.

We recognize that for some of our exhibitors the change of date may create a scheduling conflict that cannot be resolved.   If that is the case I ask that you forward an email at HighlandDayMD@gmail.com identifying your conflict (and include your mobile phone #).   We will assume any exhibitor that has not replied by October 5th can accommodate the date change and will participate as originally planned on October 31st.

For those of you with a date conflict, I am sure you can appreciate the amount of additional work and re-scheduling this brings upon me as event coordinator.  Therefore  I kindly ask you not to call me to discuss your conflict but please wait for me or a member of our committee to contact you at a later date.

Thanks so much for your continued support of Highland Day and for working with us to address this trying situation.  We are committed to keeping the success of our Highland Day tradition!

Mother Nature gave us a trick for this weekend, so come join us on
October 31st
for a new Highland Day treat!

Sincerely;
Kelly & the Highland Day Steering Committee
