Emmanuel UMC sponsors Recycling Event

Emmanuel United Methodist Church will be holding their annual Community-Wide Recycling & Bikes for the World Collection on Saturday, October 13 from 9 a.m. to noon. Goodwill Industries will be onsite (10751 Scaggsville Road) to collect electronics in any condition (no TVs) and any other donations. They will also be collecting rigid plastics, household batteries, Styrofoam, packing peanuts and eye glasses.

*Bikes for the World* will be collecting bicycles and portable sewing machines to be sent to developing countries; therefore a $10 donation is requested to help defray overseas shipping costs.

Please NOTE: EUMC can no longer accept household hazardous waste (HHW) such as paints, cleaners, chemicals, etc., so please take your HHW to Alpha Ridge Landfill. For more details about this program, visit the EUMC web-site and click on the "Serve" menu. Or, simply send an e-mail to Liz at the EUMC Green Team for recycling details. For more details about "Bikes for the World", send an e-mail to Perry.

RHS Car Wash - Aug 11 2012 @ 9 a.m.

Being a member of the RHS Music Boosters Yahoo group, I get to see some interesting e-mails. Dave Palmer, one of the Music Booster volunteers, sent out one that had an interesting slant to it- the Mayan calendar. Here, in part, is what he wrote:

"The Mayan Calendar starts on August 11, 3114 BC, marking what the Mayans believed to be the creation of the world of human beings. 5,043 years later, Babe Ruth became the first baseball player to hit 500 home runs in his career with a home run at League Park in Cleveland, marking what baseball fans believe to be the creation of modern baseball.

What better way to celebrate these momentous events than to BRING YOUR CARS TO THE RHS MUSIC BOOSTER CAR WASH ON AUGUST 11 AT RHS?  You think the Mayans would have had grimy cars?  No!  You think Babe Ruth's ride was dull and dirty?  No!  They would have brought their cars to the RHS MUSIC BOOSTER CAR WASH ON AUGUST 11 AT RHS.  And so should you!"
