The Great Quake of 2011

Today was pretty exciting, wasn't it? We experienced a 5.8 earthquake and lived to tell about it. I drove around the Highland/Fulton area some when I got home but didn't see any evident damage. When I got home and went into our house, that's when I saw the damage the quake wrought. The pictures tell the whole story. As you can see from the photos, we had quite a bit of damage.

As you can see from the extensive damage, we were lucky.

You are invited to a family picnic and a concert, sponsored by the Greater Highland Crossroads Association. The picnic will be held at Schooley Mill Park on August 5 and should start at 6 p.m. with the concert scheduled to start at 7 p.m. The band for this year is "Appaloosa", a classic rock band that has been rocking the Baltimore area since 1974, and still keeps the party jumping with versatile classic favorites from the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and all the way to today's current party music and they take pride in providing a first rate performance. The band still kicks! RSVP as soon as possible but no later than July 29. If you plan to attend, please contact Hilda Mathieu at hildon.mathieu@starpower.net or ring her up at 301-854-3028.

Ghost Bike Disappears

A few weeks back, when I was on my way to work, I happened to see something that I had read about in the Washington Post but had never seen- a ghost bike. It had appeared overnight but I wasn't able to stop. The next day I stopped and took a photo of it. The person had cut the grass around the pole to which the bike was attached and placed a hand-made sign not too far away. The bike disappeared after only a few days, probably removed by the MD SHA.

Welcome

This blog belongs to you, the communities of Highland and Fulton, MD. My goal is that, within this site, you will find relevant, informative, up-to-date information about the happenings in our 2 communities. But, I can't do it on my own. I, no, we'll all need each other's help to make this a success.

Some guidelines are appropriate.
1. No gossip.
2. No profane or vulgar language.

Hmm. That's all I can think of at the moment.

Oh, by the way, I also have a twitter account. You can visit my twitter site by clicking this link.

So, let's have fun with this.
